Anitta’s Funk Generation
With the intention of celebrating her roots and showcasing Brazilian funk sounds and lifestyle with the world, Anitta released her 6th studio album called Funk Generation on April 26, 2024. Signing in 3 different languages while drum and dance beats are playing, she drives multitudes from different nations into the very energetic Brazilian vibe.
Originally from Honório Gurgel, Rio de Janeiro, she’s the first Brazilian artist to win a MTV VMA Award. The world knows her by her professional stage name Anitta, but her family knows her as Larissa. The culture of the country shaped her into the wildly energetic artist she is today, as a singer and dancer captures her audience by her twerking dance moves and sexy lyrics.
Growing up her inspiration to become a singer was Mariah Carey so at the age 8 she began singing in the choir. She knew she was born to be a star.
She started performing as a teenager in the favelas just to share her music with her peers. And after years of performing during sleepless nights, investing her money into studio sessions, working on new dance routines, and public appearances, her hard work paid off. In 2010 Anitta met a funk carioca producer that changed her musical direction, shortly after she signed to an independent label, and determined to make herself an international artist, she collaborated with international artists like J Balvin, Maluma, and Missy Elliott. This Brazilian queen of pop rose to fame and her audience expanded when she collaborated and made appearances on international music programs such as the VMAS, Latin Grammy’s, and Carnivals.
On June 24th we got the opportunity to experience Anitta’s Funk Generation show at the Brooklyn Paramount in Brooklyn, New York. Let's just say it was a 10/10 electric talent performance. She ignited the stage at 8:30pm with bright lights, smoke, and a group of flexible dancers wearing lingerie body harnesses and short shorts. Her moves were very sexy, naughty, and provocative while she twerked on and with her dancers.
Her style was a combination of short shorts, crop top, body harness, and layered chunky jewelry, a sort of sexy, trashy, nightclub wear, it was her own and not a cookie cutter pop star. The crowd jumped to her new song “Lose Ya Breath” included on the album and sang the already party classics.
After this experience we invite you to follow Anitta’s exciting journey, and dance during the ride
