Ty Hunter and his newest book
Ty Hunter came to Jersey City Hyatt House, Jersey City, New Jersey, for a Q & A on a day dedicated to fashion while sharing his story, discussing career insights, and to promote his new book “Makeover from Within: Lessons in Hardship, Acceptance, and Self Discovery.” where he shares his obstacles, trials, triumphs and defines who he is. The event hosted by Hoboken Girl Blog Founder Jennifer Tripucka and presented by the Fashion Alliance Network, was a great opportunity to know more about the world renowned stylist that has dressed celebrities such as Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Billy Porter.
Early childhood influence
He fell in love with the world of glam and fashion after his father took him to a Diana Ross concert. And growing up he enjoyed spending time with his grandma and great grandma by going to garage sales and thrift shopping. Ty didn’t want to dress like everyone else and wear the same outfit so he would find unique antique vintage pieces and create a wild look.
Young adulthood
{ As a young adult, Ty became uninspired working with artificial heart valves so he quit his job and moved to Houston to live with his cousin. He felt like he needed to go in a different direction and pursue something he felt passionate about. Shortly after he started working in boutiques designing window displays and dressing mannequins. And one day at work his life would change forever when Miss Tina (Beyonce’s knowles mother) walked inside the boutique.
Shortly after Miss Tina offered him an opportunity to prove himself as a stylist for one of Destiny’s Child upcoming projects. He completed the difficult task so she hired him for the Destiny’s Child “Survivor Music Video.” From there on he worked closely with Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Solange.
Ty worked tirelessly with Beyonce on photoshoots, music videos, red carpets, stage performances while she built her career into a household name. He said the “Crazy in Love” Music Video outfit with the white tank, shorts, and red pumps was one of his all time favorite looks of Beyonce. He loved it because fans can easily mimic the look. And over the years he helped Beyonce mold a strong, sexy, and powerful image while her talent, artistry, success, and recognition grew around the world. He stepped away from being her stylist after 18 years to try other venues in fashion and in the tech world.
Other works
He collaborated with companies like Hyandi and a Korean designer Youn Hee Park from Greedilous. He’s created a handbag through a fashion line called A’ Cloud.
