Whether you love it or hate it, American Western style is present in New Yorkers' wardrobe, surprising people who moved to NY from the “country states” like Texas. Is it a fragile, superficial trend? We’ll give you the reasons why it might be something deeper. Can you give the style a chance while dancing and riding a mechanical bull in popular country music bars in the city?

Is caged by frail and fragile bars.”

1-Young NY people are turning into Country music and/or style.

Millennials and generation Z are embracing Country music and style over a commercial oversaturated market, where Hip Hop, R&B, and reggaeton dominate media and major events, like Macy’s parade, the Super Bowl, and Fashion Week. The young demographic seek for individuality and to belong to social tribes. They drifted to the old American style, the social values, along with the original craft for music, and great quality clothes. Country boots, boot cut denim pants, vintage t-shirt motifs are all sold out, just ask the thrift store managers. Even Bull Riding competitions are getting popular as well, with real cowboys performing in the city and collecting more and more fans for the New York Mavericks, PBR local team.

2-Celebrities and artists into the Cowboy vibe.

From the famous model Bella Hadid, and her boyfriend, a National Cutting Horse Association hall of famer, Adan Banuelos, to one of Beyonce’s latest country album, called Cowboy Carter, the western culture is taking over. The culture and aesthetics has been permeating how celebrities dress up, not just in whose origins are part of, like Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift.

3-Economy and Politics.

Believe it or not, back in the days before globalization it was strange to find a product “made in China”, usually cheap and of poor quality, among “Made in USA” or “Made in Italy”, “Made in Japan” high quality goods. But Millennials and Generation Z grew up with Asian factories taking care of almost every product in life, and now in 2024 with an already deglobalization track going on, while the US dollar is losing strength, hitting the American family income and purchase power, it is easy to feel something is missing, an identity, an unconscious need of national protectionism.
