Designer and model Evita Scoccia founded the NYSW in 2021. Safe to say, Louis Reard, one of the 1st bikini designers from France, definitely was an inspiration behind these designs and overall aesthetic. Legs for days, a variety of sizes and races all topped with swimsuits that took the stage as the main focus. Standing out from the designers Evita brought her collection hitting the mark with vacation vibes. I mean really a swimsuit is for more than just summer. The traveling women, in all of us, need a bikini ready to go at the drop of a hat. The pools, beaches and even the slip n slide wants us in those yummy lemon colored, pattern poppin for New York Swim Week.

This luxury fashion experience, NYSW, was set on July 30th, 2022 at Life Time Sky hosted by MTV’s Emily Austin and Peter Gordon. Teams from all over the country came out to bring the runway show to life through multimedia sources. Has curiosity struck you, feel like you missed out? Great thing is we got you covered partners on YouTube channel Shift Swim have it posted for viewing at your leisure. We’re starting to think this is just the beginning of a niche that has been overlooked since the 1930’s. This year’s runway was filled with a slew of designers whose emphasis is not just on designs and selecting the perfect color ways. Many are also supporting the change in fashion manufacturing. How does that correlate with our environment? Conscious designers are needed in this day where buying sustainable goods equals reducing your carbon footprint and helps fight climate change. Yes, we see you Wu-Sah creating yarns from ocean waste and even using packaging that is 100% biodegradable. Rosina-Mae offers us styles made in the USA, in turn helping reduce pollution. “Rosie’s” designs are ethically produced and some fabrics are allocated through FabScrap, this helps save scraps from waste and landfills. It’s amazing to see multiple brands coming together to support and promote one another for the betterment.

Louis Reard and Micheline Bernardini really dropped a bomb on us July 5th, 1946 that is here to stay for lifetime and years to come. Louis took a French nude dancer and placed her poolside in his bikini design and it made a mark. Now through his vision and modern times we look back on the greats and continue to make it better. We have a Parsons graduate making a name for herself, Evita Scoccia taking swimwear to a level of recognition it has never seen before. We look forward to next year’s swim week as it shall flourish greater each time. Please follow the link below to view all designers in participation each has their unique addition to NYSW.
