Susanne Bartsch a visionary and creative director

With eyes wide open the night is yours. Explore who ever you want to be or fantasize even if it’s just for the night. KUNST, a German term for art, “arrived” in New York by way of Susanne Bartsch. It’s a raging disco party of sorts where fashion and creativity is the vision. KUNST production is held at ELSEWHERE, a Brooklyn hot spot. Susanne’s travels from Switzerland to London may have been the inspiration and it was no leisure swim in the pond during the late 70’s to get to here. Constantly connecting and building foundations for future designers and opening the flood gates of endless opportunities was what kept Susanne going. After all her efforts she has been dubbed as “Queen of the New York Nightlife.”

It was the romantics subcultural looks in 1979 that fascinated and resonated with Susanne. This Swedish event producer had her major start in the 1980’s in NY where the bizarre escapades of clubs and fashion fused into one and hailed into the underground nightlife. The Avant Guard artist lead the way then and she continues to bring fashion to life but not without a posse. Performers have thrived and gone “Gaga” off of Susanne Bartsch. She has given some now famous names a start such as RuPaul who traveled the world with her, Vivienne Westwood and the late John Galliano. Truly she is an advocate for freedom of expression. Collaborations with businesses such as VERS BK NYC have been shows to talk about. At August 6th’s 2022 event Bartsch showcased the designers housed at VERS retail location. When working with VERS BK NYC it gave the business the opportunity to present their current selection of garments by indie designers. This is such a fresh boutique that offers its multi selected designers the space to cut and sew at the business location. This space is unlike any other and was founded by Tilly J D Wolfe Lapidos. A shared workshop at a dream location. KUNST is like a dress up party and everyone who’s invited is the cherry on top. It has been said to have an energy of its own so come feel it and absorb some inspiration. Don’t forget to sprinkle a little glitter here and there on your way in and sachet away on your way out. Cause honey you better work it if you’re showing up! Aside from KUNST, Bartsch has incorporated Bartschland Follies into her line up of events. B.F. is a cross of obscurities mixed with cabaret located at The McKittrick Hotel NY, NY. Support her and she will show you a good time in return, come one come all. Heading KUNST and B.F. has kept Susanne peaking in performances and with appearances. She is always on the move and under a constant spot light as she is the back bone of innovative ideas associated with style and presents it through her craft and platforms. NY is a fashion landmark of the world because of Bartsch’s efforts in the underground industry. Some may imitate her but can never duplicate her. Her skills are embedded in her DNA.

Susanne Bartsch, a muse but yet so much more. Truly she is an advocate for freedom of expression. Some of Susanne’s designs and pieces worn to these extravaganzas were viewable at The Museum at FIT in Brooklyn back in 2015 and are featured, of course, in her film On Top. On Top is viewable on Amazon detailing early events such as THE LOVE BALL in 1989 created to help unite people to fight AIDS.
